Resolved Question: A Levels or Btec for journalism course?

I'm nearly ending 4th year & I'll be on 5th year during September & now I start to wonder if I should do A Levels or Btec... I wanna be a journalist & I need a degree to be one so, obviously I need to get into a good University, maybe in London or possibly in America? I don't know yet but, to get into a good University for a journalism course, should I do A Levels or Btec? My mom says I should go for Btec 'coz it's more practical & I get to have experience writing right away & she told me that I just needed a portfolio of my written work & stuff & grades C+ in all my GCSEs which seems fair enough but my teacher suggests that doing A Levels is better 'coz it can get you more of a chance into getting into a good University & I'm kinda torn. The subjects I'd do for A Levels would be Art, Media Studies & Performing Arts 'coz those are what my school offers but in Btec, I get to do writing right away. I'd do both but, I think I wanna take a quicker way to University so, which would get me to a really good University? Btec or A Levels? I kinda need to know now so that if I decide on Btec I'll be able to get my portfolio done & ready. Bonus Question - Is it possible to get into a University in America if you're from the UK?...
